Gratitude

I am grateful to be healthy and able to lead an active life. My goal is to honour and maximize the gifts that God gave me through a total commitment to my health & wellbeing.

I am commited to maximizing my potential.

No more "languishing" with my goals

The other reason I decided to continue with this blog, rather than starting a fresh one, was that I realized I still have the same goals that I had in 2009 (GASP), yet I am not closer to achieving them.  Sure, I have though a lot about them, but sustained action - not so much!

It is time to stop writing goals and to start living them.

I feel that continuing this blog vs. wiping the slate clean will be a daily reminder of that.

Enough said....

Welcome back!

I realized it has been several years since I updated this blog, but when I re-read it I realized many of my goals remain the same, so I decided to continue and refresh it.

As the end of 2012 approaches, I find myself very thoughtful about what I want in my life, and how I want to make 2013 spectacular.

So much in my life has changed (kids moved out and husband passed away), yet some issues remain, and it is time for me to take control and resolve them once and for all.  I hope I bring a more mature perspective now.  I appreciate this is a process.  I won't be perfect, but I need to move forward in an important direction.

And I will!

More to come.....

April 10/09

I am back!

Yes I have been absent for a while, but my quest has never been far from my mind. Far from my behaviour sometimes, but not far from my mind!

I am grateful to remain commited to my goal of superb health, which for me includes a lean & athletic physique.

I have reconnected with my Dream Team darlings and that feels really good. We are back sharing our successes, our challenges & our goals.

My focus is strong, my results are showing & my plan is simple! Just eat healthy, don't eat too much & move the bod. No rocket science, just the basics, consistently. Actually, I think consistently is where the rocket science comes in! If we could bottle that (LOL).

The weather is getting nice & that always restores my soul.

Feelin' Really Healthy

I am feeling great, like it is all finally coming together. I have stayed away from animal products all week. Many of the meals Vegan, and a few Vegetarian. That said, I plan to have a small steak tonight - but from a farm that raises grass fed animals compassionately.

No more factory farmed meat for me. That whole process is disgusting.

I went to a farm stand, and got some corn right off the back of the truck, just in from the field. I am looking forward to having some corn that was harvested today (with my Vegan soy based "butter"). I also have fresh picked field tomatoes & peaches.

It is going to be a stupendous meal! You can't beat the summer for great eats. I am really going to miss the farm stands as Fall gives way to Winter.

Exercise has been great too. I have started the Turbulence Training 100 workout, which offers a style of workout I really like.

Today is a rest day, and it took a bit of mental gymnastics to remind myself that is a good & necessary thing.

I will be in superb health!

Living a more Vegan lifestyle

I have been reading Omnivore's Dilemma and Skinny Bitch. Both talk about the failings of our food system and the extensive cruelty involved in raising animals for human consumption.

It sickens me to think that I have been an unwitting contributor to that and I want off that train!

While I am not sure that I want to go cold turkey and fore sake all animal products forever, I do know that I want to make the majority of my meals Vegan not Carnivore. This has been in the back of my mind for a while, but it has always intimidated me (e.g. "what will I eat").

I decided to stop worrying & just start doing - as they say "jump & build your wings on the way down"

Past 3 days have been 100% Vegetarian and largely Vegan. I say only largely Vegan as there is a lot of rigour that goes into ensuring that there are zero animal products in the apparently Vegetarian products we use.

I am working on it!!!!! I feel really great about this.

Goals, Goals Everywhere

I have been really focusing on my goals. Staying present in the moment re what I am trying to achieve.

Too often, I had let me mind wander & lose focus. I would find myself "surprised" I had sabotaged. The truth was I had turned off the part of my brain that was directing me to live healthy so that I could do what I wanted.

Well, no more!

They say the definition of insanity is doing the same thing & expecting a different result.

I am changing what I am doing. I bought a small box to hold my goal cards. I have several dividers so that I can keep different categories of goals organized. I write my goals out for the next day before bed every night. I ensure I only write down things I am ready to truly commit to. I review my goals several times a day. I am pre-planning for some potential rough patches I can anticipate down the road (e.g business travel).

I feel empowered with this new focus & in control. I am also better able to set aside simple cravings I would have otherwise have given in to.

Thank you God.

Personal Best Update

I am continuing to work on my personal bests. A couple things of note this week:

Leg press = 300 lbs.
Squat = 110 lbs.
Assisted pull ups = 27 (at 110 lbs.)

Pretty proud of those numbers!
